Alcohol detoxification is a method of liberating the alcohol-influenced body, over a phase of time, to the extent that no more symptoms of alcohol exist in the body. The process of detoxification is mentally and physically excruciating and risky for an alcoholic. Hence, suitable care and supervision should be provided to the patient to help him retain his normal life.

Resigning from drinking is not an easy job for an alcoholic. When he quits drinking, the physical and behavioral symptoms of withdrawal follow. The patient requires help from the surrounding people and environment. People should cooperate with him and encourage him to pass through this painful process. Skilled command can assist a patient to get healthy in a more successful and effective way, within the short period.

When a person wants to be freed from the effects of alcoholism completely, he must need the detoxification process. The process of detoxification is, basically, the first stage of recovery from alcohol effects, for most of the patients. Various methods of alcohol detox are there to facilitate the alcoholics. It is up to the patient to decide, which method he thinks to be the best for him.

One method of alcohol detox is the home detoxification. The patients normally adopt this method as the first hand attempt towards cure. When an alcoholic stops drinking alcohol, he thinks that eliminating every sign of alcohol from his home and surroundings is enough to heal him. However, it is not so. As the alcoholic’s body has become used to alcohol intake, soon, the detoxification symptoms start to appear.

These symptoms can be sweating, quivering, nausea, petulance, bewilderment, and a strong urge to drink. Sometimes, these symptoms can go to such an extent that the person going through the rehabilitation process starts having severe fits, hallucination, and nervous problems. As recovering from alcoholism is not so easy, its entire load should not be put on the alcoholic or his family alone. Hence, this method is not preferable, as it can prove dangerous, ineffective, and futile.

Similarly, the social detoxification is another method, which is better than the home detoxification, but not as much efficient as to cure the person easily. Primarily, in this method, the patient is made to live with other alcoholics, who are also going through the same procedure of treatment. The patients are provided with sober atmosphere, and the skilled and proficient staff scrutinises them. However, the patients having severe seizure and fits are not preferred to this method of detoxification.

The most effective, harmless, and successful method of all is the Medical detoxification. In this method, a patient is closely examined in the hospital, in the presence of doctors and expert medical staff. The patient is observed instantly, and is facilitated to have detoxification process. Proper medicines are given to the patients to lessen the symptoms of withdrawal. This method facilitates the patient with aftercare programs. Besides, it copes with the other diseases caused by excessive drinking.

Hence, the best method is the medical detoxification, but it can be more effective if united with the plus points of home and alcoholic detox.
