hy Can Low Fat Foods Send Us to an Early Grave?

Published: Jan 30th, 2010 | Author: admin Add Comment

It is beyond any doubt that bad fats are harmful for our health. This is especially valid with the ugly trans fats which are much worse than saturated fats. The high ratio of the omega-6 polyunsaturated fats to the omega-3 fats which is typical of the western diets, is another serious reason for concern because it is well proven to promote chronic inflammation. The en masse, however, demonization of the fats has opened a secret door for a much more vicious and life threatening enemy: sugar and all the sugary substitutes most of which are nasty chemicals.

A huge industry of low fat and fat free foods flourishes because of our abysmal ignorance and the consequences for our health are detrimental.

Some examples of these foods:

- Frozen foods ready to be microwave
- Cakes,cookies and the like.
- Ice creams,candies and pastries.
- Frozen yogurts,etc. (more…)

Published: Jan 24th, 2010 | Author: admin Add Comment

Though the recent campaign for presidency brought affordable health care into the limelight, many small business owners and their employees felt this struggle long before it gained public attention. One of President Obama’s campaign calling cards is his plan for affordable health care. Intertwined within the general theme of affordable health insurance was the more specific aid to assist small businesses in providing health care for their employees.

If California is any indication of the lack of affordable health care in small businesses created in the rest of the United States, there is a major problem. According to Small Businesses for Affordable Healthcare, out of all the businesses in California, more than three million employees are uninsured. Those who do have the luxury of health insurance provided by their small business employers have faced a rise in premium costs at over fifty percent. Ecstasy Or Death at the Club

Published: Jan 16th, 2010 | Author: admin Add Comment

Ambulances frequently park outside Raves (a large dance and party in a big space-much like old fashioned discotheques.) They aren’t on call to treat those who might faint from overdoing it on the dance floor. They are on standby to save the lives of any teens that might overdose on ecstasy. Ecstasy and Raves are almost synonymous. Where there are Raves there is ecstasy and where there is ecstasy there is potential harm or death.

While it might seem to make the dance floor more fun, for some, it is their Swan Dance.

An estimated 12.4 million Americans aged 12 or older tried ecstasy at least once in their lifetimes, representing 5% of the U.S. population in that age group, according to the 2007 National Survey on Drug Abuse and Health (NSDUH).

Ecstasy is a synthetic drug chemically similar to the methamphstimulant etamine and the hallucinogen mescaline. (The main component of ecstasy is methylenedioxymethamphetamine or MDMA.)

18 Raw Recipe Tips before you get started on your Recipes

Before you get started on a recipe, here are a few basic points to keep in mind:

Your ingredients should be raw, of course (raw carob powder, raw tahini, raw almond butter, unpasteurized miso, and so on). A few recipes call for items that are not raw . These can be used for flavor, if desired or ommitted.

Use Organic produce when possible.
Wash all produce.
Peel what needs to be peeled (for example, bananas, avacados, jicama, papayas, and any waxed produce); otherwise, leave the peel on (for example, carrots, apples, and unwaxed cucumbers).
Remove large, hard seeds, such as those as of dates and prunes, and also some smaller ones, such as those of citrus fruits and papayas.
Remove woody stems, such as those as figs and apples.
Use pure water in any recipe that calls for water (or for soaking).
When a recipe calls for soaking nuts or seeds you’ll typically soak them in twice as much water as their dry volume. Large nuts are generally soaked from eight to twelve hours. Small nuts and seeds are generally soaked from four to six hours. Rinse nuts and seeds in a colander after soaking, and drain them well and quickly before using them. Discard the nut soak water in the garden or use it to water plants. It is not for consumption. Dried fruit should be soaked in a small amount of water (just enough to cover) until it is tender. The soak water can usually be included to add moisture to a recipe. Certain recipes may deviate from these guidlines.)

Is Smoking An Addiction?

Published: Jan 11th, 2010 | Author: admin Add Comment

Over the years I have noticed how everyone’s beliefs can differ in relation to whether they think that smoking is an addiction or simply a habit. This core belief has a missive impact upon how easy or how difficult you find it to stop smoking. If you think that you are addicted to smoking then you will find it more difficult than if you thought it was just a habit. Your thoughts and beliefs shape your experiences about everything in life, not just stopping smoking.

Not only will believing in the addictiveness of smoking impact upon how easy you find it to stop smoking, it can also create a justification for remaining a smoker. It becomes easy to say to yourself “I’m addicted now so I can’t stop smoking” and then not even try. Also, if you think that smoking is an addiction, it is easier to fool yourself into the belief that continuing to smoke is not your fault – that you cannot help yourself because you are the victim of an addiction. This thought pattern is anything but empowering!

To stop smoking easily you have to get your mind around this subject. It is important to ask yourself why you assume that smoking is an addiction. We know that innumerable chemicals are produced as you smoke even a single cigarette and this may lead one to believe that smoking must therefore be addictive. But we also know of many people who have decided to stop smoking and have done exactly that; they stopped smoking and didn’t get withdrawal symptoms, not a single symptom. We know others who tried to stop and didn’t manage it. We know people who got angry when they stopped or put on a lot of weight.

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome – Causes, Symptoms and Treatment Methods

Alcohol is capable of causing birth defects. Causing a child to suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome is really nothing short of child abuse and it lasts for life.
Fetal Alcohol syndrom is an invisible avalanche crashing down and overwhelming public resources. Patients with fetal alcohol syndrome typically have multiple handicaps and require special medical, educational, familial and community assistance. A baby born with FAS may be seriously handicapped and require a lifetime of special care. In the United States, about 1,200 children are born each year with fetal alcohol syndrome. It is the leading cause of mental retardation in this country. When a woman drinks alcohol during pregnancy, she risks giving birth to a child who will pay the price- in mental and physical deficiencies- for his or her entire life. It is a pattern of mental and physical defects which develops in some unborn babies when the mother drinks too much alcohol during pregnancy. People with FAS might have problems with learning, memory, attention span, communication, vision, hearing, or a combination of these. These problems often lead to difficulties in school and problems getting along with others.
