Drug Abuse is Not Inevitable

“If only I had known then what I know now, I would never have taken that first hit!” This is the common cry of Drug addicted people all over the world. It matters little if the drug is Heroin, crystal Methamphetamine, Hashish or Crack Cocaine. The whole process that eventually led to this person’s ruined life, their diminished potential, ravaged body and blunted mental capacity could have been avoided if the original act had never occurred.

It seems obvious that no one would begin an activity that stands a good chance of ruining their life unless they did not know or did not believe that it could actually happen to them. But most schools in the United States have some form of drug education. So why is it that in the U.S. there are still roughly seven thousand young people trying illegal drugs for the first time each day?

We have been hearing for years that most kids will try drugs no matter what the adults say. This is from a group that forwards a theory called Harm Reduction. They hold that the best we can do is teach young people to use drugs safely or responsibly. But how do you take crack Cocaine safely? Ecstasy Or Death at the Club

Ambulances frequently park outside Raves (a large dance and party in a big space-much like old fashioned discotheques.) They aren’t on call to treat those who might faint from overdoing it on the dance floor. They are on standby to save the lives of any teens that might overdose on ecstasy. Ecstasy and Raves are almost synonymous. Where there are Raves there is ecstasy and where there is ecstasy there is potential harm or death.

While it might seem to make the dance floor more fun, for some, it is their Swan Dance.

An estimated 12.4 million Americans aged 12 or older tried ecstasy at least once in their lifetimes, representing 5% of the U.S. population in that age group, according to the 2007 National Survey on Drug Abuse and Health (NSDUH).

Ecstasy is a synthetic drug chemically similar to the methamphstimulant etamine and the hallucinogen mescaline. (The main component of ecstasy is methylenedioxymethamphetamine or MDMA.)

It isn’t a question as to why you should put an end to your drug abuse as there are thousands of medical reasons in which if listed, could go on forever. Research shows that when a parent falls into the depths of becoming a drug addict, they risk the chances of producing a happy family. Those who get addicted would be more interested in obtaining their substances rather than their kids homework, the plumbing and what’s for dinner tomorrow night. So the first fallout would be the bond within the family.
